      Text of "Woman's Statement" included in the casebook

      Woman's Satement (Nov 22/87). Said husband had del. tremers (unclear); could not control him so applied for admission. Husband was a barman at Lovat Arms, was born in 1855. Admitted as a Lunatic & subsequently discharged quite well.

      Feb 16 1889. Husband now in Colney Hatch; was sent there by Mile End Parish authorities when living at 93 St Pauls Road. Landlord of Lovat Arms is allowing 10/- a week. Asked C.O.S. for advice; am not earning anything at present. Husband's father is on M.E.O.T. workhouse at present. Asks that two boys be admitted to schools.

      Asst. RO visited & reports that landlady of 21 Locksley St says woman is a great drunkard and neglected children. Similar report from landlady of No. 17 Locksley St. Two children admitted (Albert & Ernest). They were taken in at BWH on March 8 1889 & sent to Sutton Schools, four days later.

    • George Renecle wrote to the Chief Officer Records, Norfolk Regt seeking news of Samuel Francis on behalf of his mother and also commenting that she has an "invalide" daughter aged 19 in the final stage of consumption and stating that "she has to work hard - and does - to earn a few shillings to keep the home together and provide necessities for the comfort of this poor girl".
